News from Redbridge: Council Tax rise kept low
What we plan to do for Redbridge Borough: -
We will continue to attack all instances of crime and anti-social behaviour both at home and on the streets.
We have established the Parks police and street scene enforcement officers and they are doing a great job.
We aim to reduce graffiti, fly tipping and put greater effort into street cleaning and recycling. We have a zero
tolerance on racial graffiti and this is removed immediately.
We are rated as the 3rd Best Council nationally for our Schools exam results. Two new schools have been built and we hope to have our first Academy shortly.
Our Adult Social Services are rated 4 star and we are building the first Care Village in the Borough..
We have a new Olympic Cycling Centre at Hogg Hill and an 8 lane running track at Ashton Playing Fields.
We have just completed the restoration of Valentines Mansion and Park which will be a lasting legacy to
the Borough.
There will be a new park at Repton which will be the first new London park for many years and we will have our first Environmental Centre at Ray Lodge Park.
We will have a new Sports Hall and multi sports facility at Wanstead Leisure Centre.
We are one of the few London Boroughs that will offer free swimming to the under 16s and over 65s.
We will provide £100,000 extra support to help our local businesses.
We are providing extra money to help the Kenneth More Theatre and to refurbish our play areas and equipment in the parks.
At Redbridge our overall aim is to improve the quality of life for all the residents of the Borough whilst not allowing the cost of doing so to rise out of proportion. The rebuilding of Churchfields Junior School is planned to start later this year
Conservatives in Redbridge recognise the need to keep the Council Tax as low as possible whilst still maintaining the services they provide to residents. This is naturally extremely difficult this year due to the current economic climate and credit crunch we all face.
For a long time the Labour Government have sat back, watched and done nothing to prevent the current economic crisis we have today which has been brought about by their own ineffective financial policies. They have always failed to give us sufficient money but have steadily increased the burden of bureaucracy which has only made our job more difficult.
Despite all of this the good news is that Redbridge Council through good resource management and a combination of efficiency savings and strict financial control is able to deliver a Council tax increase lower than last year.
This year we are increasing the Council Tax by only 2.1%.There is no rise in the GLA precept. The Conservative Mayor of London Boris Johnson has kept his promise not to increase it
We will not waste your money. We intend to spend it wisely and effectively and where it is needed most. Through our consultations with residents we have identified what your priorities are and where the resources should be spent. So let us tell you about some of the things we have already done and what we intend to do in the future.
