Labour are planning to close the front counter of Chingford Police Station, leaving us with no police station open to the public in Waltham Forest.
In the last year in London approximately 50,000 crimes were reported inside a police station. The police “front counter” is also an easy access point for victims to obtain updates on current investigations of serious crimes they have experienced. They are a refuge for those in danger and a place for witnesses to come forward. If this goes ahead, our closest front counter will be Stratford.
Vulnerable groups often prefer to visit a police station in person, and we know in Chingford that our elderly population is much higher than the London average.
Hopefully none of us ever need a public access point to the police but if we did, it would be devastating to know we don’t have such a space.
We also have all seen what happened with Woodford police station, first the front counter was closed and then secondly Labour closed the whole thing down and sold it off.
Sign our petition and let’s save the front counter of Chingford Police Station
