LABOUR COUNCIL PLAN 27,000 NEW HOMES FOR THE BOROUGH
4,000 of these new homes are planned to be in Chingford, Highams Park and Woodford Green.
Local Conservatives recognise that we need new homes for local people, but the Council’s target is 3,300 homes higher than that set for it by the Mayor of London. We think it should be reduced to the level set by the Mayor.
We also want to see strong protection for the character of Chingford, Highams Park and Woodford Green, with height limits to stop the sort of tower block development that is happening in Walthamstow and Leyton.
Parking needs to be adequate and preserved to support our local high streets and provided for new homes, along with new school places and GP facilities which need to be in place before any new housing development is occupied.
We want new, affordable homes to be offered first to people with a strong local connection, so that local people benefit when development does happen.
