West Essex Cricket and Football clubs have served our community for over 100 years. But that is now at risk.
Due to subsidence, the football and cricket clubs had to vacate their clubhouse in 2019. The Council agreed an insurance settlement but they are now saying this isn't enough for the promised 'full rebuild'.
The council is now offering a building just one third of the size of the original clubhouse - and even that can't be funded fully from what the council agreed with the insurers. The club is unlikely to be able to function in such a small building.
Our MP, Sir Iain Duncan Smith, has written to the government, who recently announced a £100m fund for community sports clubs, asking that they step in with the additional funding needed to provide a new clubhouse, suitable for the club's needs.
