Lights, Camera...Inaction

We all want to see the Regal restored to it’s former glory and operating as a heartbeat of the community.

But four years on from granting planning consent for a flawed scheme - which local Conservatives wanted deferred so the obvious problems could be addressed - the Labour-run council is talking to developers, behind closed doors, about a new planning application.

We have been told this might have more flats and more floors, taking it over the six stories which the current consent allows. There is real concern that without public consultation any future design may ignore the Highams Park Neighbourhood Plan. We’re calling for the Council to halt its discussions with the new owners until local people can have their say.

1.1. Under the approved scheme, The Regal Cinema will have no off-road parking facilities for its occupiers. Do you think it is important that any new residential block of flats has enough parking for its residents?
1.2. The Regal has been approved for 2 new Cinema screens but has no confirmed commercial operator. Do you think it is important to have a firm commitment from a Cinema operator before the site is redeveloped?
1.3. The approved redevelopment of The Regal will be 6-storeys in height, built behind the original site's art-deco facade. Do you think it is important that the rest of the site should be in keeping with the cinema's historic design?
